CMTS Belize | November 2024

Happy Thanksgiving week! I thought I would send out a short update on relocating back in Belize! Overall, our travels went well. It is always a delight to stay with our friends Charlie and Nancy Suter who live about 20 minutes from BWI airport. After a wonderful dinner and a good nights rest, we were up at 3 am to get ready for the start of our trip. This was the first time we entered Belize as residents. The government still has not issued our official cards, but they have our passport numbers in the computer system so we were cleared right through. Praise the Lord!

Our friend Norman Wolfer (a transplant from California) picked us up with his extended cab pickup truck. We started off on the 1hr 45-minute journey home with the 6 suitcases in the bed of the truck. It was about 2:30 pm, and we were hungry. Norman suggested Chinese food, as he knew of a good place nearby. What a delight the Green Panda turned out to be. As we were waiting for our food, dark heavy clouds were rolling in, and I mentioned that they should move the suitcases inside the cab, all except the hard case one. Somehow the guys got them all on the back seat just in time. It rained the rest of the way home, and I had to sit up front between the guys. We could see that the Belize River was still overflowing her banks, and water was laying everywhere.

Here at CMTS, we lost some chickens to the high water but otherwise, all of the other animals were fine. Water came into the house from the roof in several places. We have not been able to track down where it is actually coming from:(

We have had beautiful sunny, yet cooler days, which are allowing us to dry out. Andy and Jose are busy making space to put the shipping crates under the roof when they arrive. Since the sea container is rented from the shipping company, we will have to unload everything in one day and send the empty container back to the port. The estimated time of arrival at the port of Belize is December 15th. We are not sure how long it will take to clear customs.

Two days after arriving here, I started feeling sick, I have head congestion, achy joints, an upset stomach, and no energy. I am self medicating with over the counter meds, drinking tea alot, and resting. What ever it is, I hope it passes quickly, and that Andy doesn’t get it!!

We will not be celebrating Thanksgiving as it is not a holiday here. The Belizeans are already getting excited about Christmas. In our hearts, we are thankful for the way the Lord orchestrated our surgeries and for the time we had with family and friends! May the Lord Bless you and Keep you! Nancy Merrick
