March-May Equip Newsletter – David

Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing well. I’m David McDermott and I would like to share what God has been doing in my life at CMTS as an Equip Student.

Mission Work/Vocation Work

I’ve been working with Ray in maintenance for a while and I’ve been learning a lot. He’s taught me how to install lighting, fix storm doors, build computers, and much more. Soon I hope to build a little wall shelf for my books which will be fun.

We are now getting ready and are about to go on our Kentucky trip which should be good. We will be helping out a ministry that builds and fixes houses for the people who lost their home to a tornado. We may also be doing other things while we are down there and on the way back we will be visiting the Ark which will be awesome.

Mexico Trip

Day 1: We packed suitcases for later events. We went to share food and bibles with people waiting outside a hospital. I got to pray for someone which was awesome and exciting.

Day 2: We continued to pack more suitcases which was fun. In the evening we went to a church where me and the other students helped with a presentation and crafts which went really well and we had fun doing so. A special moment happened when a guy after the service crafts and meal was done came up to me and gave me a 20 peso bill and wrapped my hand around it like he really wanted me to have it. I didn’t know what he said but I could tell it meant all to him.

Day 3: We gave the suitcases of clothes to poor families at the foot of a mountain. Me, Emi, and a translator went to one family  but the mom and her children weren’t home but the grandma was. It was a cool experience because the grandma was going to go to the doctor that morning but she felt that God was telling her to stay and did. If she didn’t we wouldn’t have been able to give the suitcase to them. We had an encouraging conversation about God and how he provides and despite the little she had she shared some of her food with us. The food was for her whole family but she still wanted to bless us which was humbling. We also helped organize a warehouse at a migrant center which was rather enjoyable even with Grace throwing drinks at me to stack (she didn’t when I wasn’t looking). I also got to make a new friend when I was down there.

Day 4: We went to a mens rehab center where Justin got to teach an awesome message. The men there were really friendly and nice and seemed to really want to change their lives and devote themselves to Christ.

Day 5: We went to a poor town to help hand out food and Joel and Jenny shared a few things they like they should. During our time there God taught about joy and peace and who even when you have nothing you can still have those. Later on in the day we went back to the mountain area to do a kids ministry event. Grace and I got to teach a lesson, she was the one speaking which she did an awesome job at and I was her assistant showing the pictures to the kids which was fun. It was fun and I really enjoyed it, even the games we played like soccer and steal the bacon (you basically go and take as many bean bags as you can from the middle and go back to your team).

Day 6: It was a Sunday and I felt like God was working a lot that day. I have been wondering about a lot of things and knowing what God has told me that morning but I was missing hope. One of the Staff at YWAM felt like God wanted him to preach something at church and it was about hope which was amazing. A little later they did a unique prayer time where if you went and prayed for who you felt God telling you to pray for. The pastor of the church prayed for me and felt filled with the Holy Spirit. It was amazing.
